Geocache Description:

Visit a grove of giant trees on the Oregon Coast.

The Arcadia Cedar has been nominated as the newest champion tree in Oregon, it's still unofficial. The tree is on ODF land, but is under threat of a land exhange and possible subdivision development nearby. Come see this tree in its wild habitat before that changes!

To get there, park at the Arcadia Beach State Wayside. Cross highway 101 and walk south a short distance to Shannon Lane. Walk east on Shannon Lane which quickly becomes an overgrown logging road. Once the road starts ascending you will be past the private property and in state forest land. The rest of your trip will be a jungly bushwack, or if you're lucky you might find some bits of old road and elk trail. Head towards the Big Tree waypoint first. I wasn't sure if this was the champion tree or not, but it's a good reference point. Just take the path of least resistance in the general direction towards the waypoint. Then head towards the cache which is in the next drainage north.

The cache is a dry box about 10 feet from the base of the biggest cedar tree around, what I believe is the Arcadia Cedar, but I'm not completely sure. It is hidden under a downed brother on the east side of the giant.

Uphill from the cache there are some more big trees, including some mighty fine Sitka spruces and Douglas-firs. Enjoy your adventure!
