Geocache Description:

Treasure Island

This book was written by Robert Louis Stevenson and published in 1883. It tells the story of young Jim Hawkins who meets an old pirate who stays at their inn. When the pirate dies Jim finds a map leading to the pirate’s buried treasure. He commissions a ship to take him out looking for it. Along the way he finds out that some of the crew are actually pirates who plan on murdering the captain once they’ve found the loot. So what happens? Do they find the buried treasure? Is there a battle between the sailors and the pirates? Does Jim escape with the treasure? You’ll have to read to find out.

Who doesn’t love a grand adventure like this one? This story is a morality tale about a boy that is coming of age. The action and adventure make it great fun and I loved the story. Many parts of the tale have become well-known pirate “lore”, such as X marking the spot on the treasure map or the black spot.

About this series

When I initially sat down and started writing down the titles of classic children’s books I soon found a very long list. I decided to limit myself to some that are books that I actually read when I was a child, most of which I read several times, and loved. I still had a hard time narrowing down my search. There are so many fabulous books out there and the classics are still read for a reason, they’re great literature! So dust off your library card and go check out some of these wonderful books. I am initially hiding 9 caches for the Waukesha Janboree and it was not easy to only choose 9 classic books. Maybe you could include in your log whether or not you’ve read the book and what you took away from it.

This cache was hidden for the 2014 Waukesha Janboree. Permission has been given by the Waukesha City Parks and Rec for the placement of this geocache. Please be respectful of the environment and remember that this is a very high traffic area and you will need to be stealthy so that the geocache isn’t muggled.
