Cachen finns gömd i slottsparken tillhörande Wenngarns slott, ett slott med en lång och varierande historia. Läs mer för att höra om en del av den spännande historien.

Nu står ni på Wenngarns slottsområde. Här finns en fantastisk historia. Området runt Wenngarn nämns första gången i Sveriges äldsta bevarade brev och själva Wenngarn slott nämns för första gången år 1167.

Några av de mest kända åren av Wenngarns historia är när området ägdes av greve Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, en av Sveriges viktigaste personer på 1600 talet. Under hans tid utvecklades Wenngarn från en borg till det barockslott som står här än idag. I slottet lät han bla skapa vad som idag är en av de bäst bevarade barockkyrkorna i Sverige. För denna ombyggnad samarbetade De la Gardie med arkitekten Jean De la Vallée. De la Vallée var en av de mest framstående arkitekterna i Sverige på den tiden, och som 1651 blev kunglig arkitekt. Förutom Wenngarn så var De la Vallée involverad i ombyggnaden av Stockholms slott och delar av Riddarhuset. De la Gardie drabbades hårt av reduktionen på 1650-talet och Wenngarn blev det sista slott han fick behålla och var platsen han dog på, den 26 april 1686.

Wenngarn har levt vidare sedan dess. 1916 blev området ”Statens centrala anstalt för alkoholsjuka”. I samband med detta lät staten bygga den vita anstaltsbyggnaden, en byggnad som ofta misstas för att vara slottet. Den statliga alkolistvården på Wenngarn nådde sitt slut 1983, då man sålde Wenngarn till Lewi Pethrus Stiftelsen, en del av Pingströrelsen, som här bedrev vård av missbrukare till 1997.

You are now visiting Wenngarn’s Castle and its surrounding area. There is a lot of interesting history here. The area around was first mentioned in the oldest preserved letter in Sweden and Wenngarn's castle was first mentioned in 1167.

The part of the history that perhaps is the most well known is when Wenngarn was owned by Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie. He was one of the most important persons in Sweden, in the 17th century. He developed Wenngarn, from a small castle, to the baroque style castle standing here still today. Within this castle he also created what today is one of the most well preserved baroque styled churches in Sweden. For this project, De la Gardie worked with the architect Jean De la Vallée. At this time, De la Vallée was one of the most prominent architects in Sweden and in 1651 he became royal architect. Except the castle you see right now, De la Vallée has as well worked on the reconstruction of the royal palace in Stockholm and parts of Riddarhuset (also in Stockholm). When The Crown took back a lot of castles and properties in the middle of the 17th century (the reduction), De la Gardie lost a lot of his properties. Wenngarn became his last castle and also the place where he died on April 26th, 1686.

Wenngarn’s history did not end here. In 1916 this area became Sweden’s central institution for treatment of people addicted to alcohol. At the same time the white institutional building was built, a building often mistaken for the castle. The Swedish government used Wenngarn for treatment of people addicted to alcohol until 1983. In 1983 Wenngarn was sold to the Lewi Pethrus Thrust for Philanthropic Endeavour, who treated drug-users here until 1997.
