This cache is based on the Puppy Love series of caches in Clinton, Iowa. Snoopy was my grandparents dog and lived on a farm not far from the coordinates. Snoopy (named by c_dog) was a Blue Heeler and had quite the personality. I could tell you many stories ranging from Snoopy's addiction to Nilla Wafers, to incessant barking in the middle of the night after treeing a racoon, and "protecting" my grandmother whenever my grandfather would try to playfully kiss her. Unfortunately, the farm and Snoopy are now only memories of 30-years past.
If you were to ask me to choose a place that has my most precious memories from childhood, the nearby farm/acreage would be at the top of my list. I spent many hours here as a child, almost every weekend and during vacations from school, exploring nature and climbing trees in the grove. I knew nothing about GPS and home computers were still looming on the horizon. While standing here after placing the cache I couln't help but reflect on the changes to the area, farming, and the world that have occured since that time.
To the south is Union Hills Wildlife Management Area. I'm proud to say that my grandfather had a part in returning some of his farmland to it's natural state, providing a habitat for song birds, water fowl and wetland wildlife and protecting our natural resources such as the soil and groundwater.
Thank you for visiting the cache honoring this area and my favorite pup.
