Geocache Description:

Come earn your 2014 CITO Souvenir with BACON!

When:  Sunday, April 27, 2014  9:00 AM until 2:00PM ? (The more time you can spare, the more area we will cover)

Where: 528 Boat Launch, Moraine SP

We will be policing up the area between Trout Cove and the Upper 528 Launch.  Come show your support for a great cause and help us clean up.

Help us help the park.

BACON would like to welcome Dustin Drew as the new park manager.  Moraine State Park is a preserve that encompasses 16,725 acres with a 3,225 acre lake as its crown jewel.  The park has been welcoming families and sportsmen since opening in 1970.  Come help us show our support for Dustin and Moraine, and help improve this great resource for others.

What’s the plan?

We will be meeting in the parking lot at 528 Boat Launch and focusing on the areas between Trout Cove and the Upper 528 Boat Launch.  Many of the areas will be a 1.5 terrain and are accessible by road but we hope to form a couple of heartier teams to pack out some trash from a few of the further reaches.  Gloves and proper attire is a must, the task will expose you to sharp objects and many areas on the fringes where the trash hides are also great for briars and if warm enough, ticks.  If you are willing to go into the woods you may want to bring an old pack or duffle to help carry out.

Bring a friend, stay a while.

Bring a friend and stay as long as you can.  This is a large area and we can always find more ground to cover if we have the resources.  This vast park has plenty of places that could use some attention and we have picked some secondary locations if we complete the target area.

Prizes.

Don’t just leave with your CITO Souvenir, try to win a prize!  We will be awarding a prize for the most trash carried out, and another for the most interesting or just simply weird item found.  (You may be surprised by some of the stuff people toss out there.)

Temporary Caches.

We will be placing a few temporary caches in the area.  We don't want you to lose sight of the goal of gathering as much trash as we can, but we hope you'll take a little break, read the description, and go to the locations that will focus on showcasing some of the great resources Moraine State Park has to offer.

Snacks and Water.

We will try to bring enough snacks and water for everyone.  If you’d like to bring something, you may.  There is also running water and restroom facilities at the staging area.

From the South:        Take I-79 North to US-422 East.  Take PA-528 North into the park.

From the North:        Take  PA-528 into the park Via PA-8 at the Old Stone House.

NOTE: (As per the park staff and BACON) There are ticks in this area. It would be advised that you use insect repellent or at the very least, be aware and check yourself frequently. DCNR also recommends a thorough shower when you return home to ensure none of these little critters has hitched a ride home with you. And, although the poisonous plants may be less of a problem this time of year, contact with the sap of the poison ivy vine may still cause irritation so a good shower may be good preventative medicine for that as well.
