Geocache Description:

An A-Basin "Beach Party" with a geocaching theme.

Event will be held in the Early Riser parking lot at Arapahoe Basin on Sunday, May 4.  Event is 9AM to 5PM.  Parking lot opens at 7AM.

The Beach is where the parking lot fronts the ski slopes, near the Molly Hogan and Pallavicini lifts.  You do not have to pay to park in this lot, or the two parking lots marked with waypoints.  The A-Frame base lodge complex is a short walk away to the east and has bathrooms.  Look for a silver Mitsubishi Montero with a green & white "Evergreen" flag across the windshield, facing the lot.  Vehicle will be in the lot as soon as it opens.

Do you Ski-O-Cache?  If you downhill ski and geocache, but have never visited a ski-o-cache, you are missing out!  Ski-o-caches are simply a geocache placed at a ski resort.  You can get to them most easily by riding the lift, but you CAN access them without buying a lift ticket, either by backcountry skiing (requires skill, equipment and strenuous physical activity), or by waiting for summer and hiking in.  For this reason, ski-o-caches usually have high terrain/difficulty ratings and are a great way to fill in the lower right corner of the difficulty matrix.  Ski-o-caches require a unique mix of skiing and caching skills, so they are a challenge and a blast!

There are currently 4 caches on the mountain.  Three are on black slopes and require expert skiing skills to reach.  The fourth is on a blue slope.  I will place a fifth cache before the event and publish it after the lifts close on the day before.  It will be on a blue slope, but can be accessed from a nearby green slope by popping your skis off and walking to it in your ski boots.  It will be the largest container I can safely hide in the area and will contain an FTF prize, so get there early.  You can search, any time, for the five caches, then return to the Beach for burgers, brats and beer (or pop).  Event will be held, sun or snow, so get ready for a unique caching/skiing experience!
