Well of course it's not Stoke-on-Trent, but Stoke Albany, which lies on the boundary between Northants and Leics.
Join me for an afternoon event which could involve searching for some new caches should you wish to.
Meeting at the White Horse pub from 12 noon, the event will run until around 17.15 or 5.15pm in old money.
Whilst the pub will be delighted to serve us liquid and solid refreshments they'd appreciate it if you could give some advance warning of your eating requirements. Their website is www.thewhite-horse.net, on which you'll find the menu; and their phone number is 01858 535268.
For those wishing to locate new caches it will be no secret to reveal that the route will involve a wander to Ashley returning to the car park down at the Church in Stoke. This will involve a couple of steepish climbs, but nothing the average walker can't manage at their own pace.
As with all Team SHaG events, caches will be published some time a minimum of six hours before the event thereby allowing you to generate your own Pocket Query. There will, however, be print outs of coordinates available on the day, and I may even bring along the PC to enable you to upload the coordinates on site. Please bring along the USB lead for your GPS though, as they aren't all universal.
I walked the series on 3rd May and can confirm that the farmers have made the footpaths very obvious. There was flowering rape seed which made me yellow - but this may well have gone by 7th June. The climb out of Ashley did have cattle in the field but they showed no interest in my dog or I. The observant amongst you will note that I have extended the event timing. This is because it took me just two and a half hours to walk the route. I suspect you need to allow four hours. You can of course start earlier and turn up at the event having completed it all. The finish allows me to get to Harborough and get my dancing clothes on!
