Every year at the end of April, my Boy Scout Troop attends the Ulysses S. Grant Pilgrimage, held in his hometown of Galena, Illinois. I thought this would be a great site for a virtual cache. Unfortunately the weekend of the event it rained very hard. Now rain never stops a scout from going on a campout, and the same held true for this weekend. But I don’t do as many points as I had planed. Never the less I think you will have a good time on this hike. Just don’t stop at these points of interest explore this great little town.
Galena is situated in the northwestern corner of Illinois, bordering on Wisconsin to the north and the Mississippi River to the west. This city of 3,600 residents is rich in history with the home of the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant and 85% of Galena listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
