Geocache Description:

Beco do Batman

Cache colocado no beco do batman na Vila Madalena, São Paulo, SP

Batman Alley

Cache placed at Beco do Batman ( Batman Alley ) at Vila Madalena, São Paulo, SP

An outdoors art gallery. Thats the easy definition of the Gonçalo Monteiro street. The Batman Alley, little alley that serves as an alternative to the Rua Luis Murat car traffic, that is a slope in the back of the São Paulo cemitery. With every wall dedicated to graffiti, it's history started at 1980s when a Batman drawing appeared at the neigborhood. Since then art students started to fill the gray walls regularly. "When we arrived at 1985 the place was dirty, faded and lifeless. We started to paint systematically, every week", remember Rui Amaral, author of some works there, togheter with John Howard, from USA. The images vary from stylized letters to cubist and psichodellyc influences. The collourfullness took the english TV and radio network BBC, that described the place as "full of creative energy".
