The little spit is an east facing stretch of rocks and gravel extending into the Hecate Straight. Walking around the spit will give you sweeping views of the Straight and the Skidegate Inlet, with little to obstruct the view. The walk is following the airport’s runway fence, and walkers should keep away from the runway itself. The trail is well marked and easy to follow, and to complete the loop can take from 45mn to 2 hours, depending on your pace. It is a great place to observe migrating birds and local shorebirds. One very big eagle that you will no doubt notice, is a wooden sculpture placed at the end of the runway to deter birds from landing on the runway, with little success…
