The Blue Loon was built in 1994 as the Crazy Loon Saloon. It operated for a few years before going into bankruptcy. The current owner at the time was operating the Marlin, another popular night spot in Fairbanks. The Marlin had originally been called the Blue Marlin before it had closed in the early 90’s. When the current owner of the Blue Loon opened the Marlin the landlady didn’t want him to use the original name “Blue Marlin” so he simply called it the Marlin. When he later took over the Blue Loon he didn’t want to use the original name “Crazy Loon” since it had gone bankrupt. But, he wanted to keep some of the name so people would know where it was. So he kept the Loon portion of the name and added the Blue portion that had been removed from the Marlin’s name. So voila - The Blue Loon was born in 1997 and has been operating ever since.
Sadly, this past Spring the Loon burnt to the ground. The cache was not damaged however it does rest behind the fire line. PLEASE do not attempt to find this cache. It has been disabled and cannot be logged. The new owner of the parcel will decide on the continuing existence of this cache at a later date. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
