Medina River Floods
In the summer of 1987, the nearby Medina River flooded so much, it washed out this section of the road. The next year, a proper bridge was built to carry traffic over this flood-prone area.
At the Landmark Inn in nearby Castroville, you can see a flood marker for all the major Medina River floods since 1843, including the 1987 flood.
Due to the ongoing drought, at the time of the placement of this cache, Medina Lake was a mere 2.8% of capacity and the Medina River stopped flowing in many areas.
