Finding this cache will take you to three nearby places. Bring your binoculars to get a great view of the Blue Herons.
1) First, cross the street and enter the "Waterworks Gardens" park. Find location N 47° 28.350, W 122° 14.525
At this spot you will see some tall rock columns. Count them; this number will be the variable "A" in the cache formula later on.
2) Now, find location N 47° 28.392, W 122° 14.326
You are now at an entrance to the Springbrook paved trail. This is a nice trail for a quiet walk. Notice the yellow trail sign reading "Trail Ends ### ft". This number will be the variable "B" in the cache formula later on.
3) Now, find location N 47°28.520, W 122° 14.379.
Approach this location very quietly to hear all the racket coming from across the water. This special area is the nesting location for a large Blue Heron Colony. During this time of the year (spring), many Herons are in the tree tops tending to the nests.
Look at all of the nests in the tops of the trees across the water. Count them; this number will be the variable "C" in the cache formula later on.
4) Now you can calculate the cache location using the following:
North 47° 28.Z
West 122° 14.Y
Where Z= C + (4 * B) + (8 * A) + 9 - C
Where Y= (5 * B) - C + (1 * A) - 7 + C
