Elsa Visits The Chippewa River Trail Traditional Geocache

Elsa and I were out hunting morels, and had no luck, so we placed a cache here instead.  The cache is a pretty basic hide.  Just a preform tucked into a very large tree.  If you go a little further down the trail, you will come to the bridge across the Porcupine Creek, one of my favorite spots on the trail.

 This section of the trail is not DNR property, and is owned by XCEL Energy is open to foot and bike traffic.  From this point onward all the way to Durand is owned by XCEL, and was once dotted by little farms.  NSP bought several square miles of land here years ago, with the intention of building a nuclear power plant here.  When those plans fell through, they decided to hold onto the land in case they decide to build a coal power plant here, which today looks pretty unlikely.
