This Broadmayne "D5" series of caches, multicaches and puzzles have been placed at Sites of Interest that mark the role this village played in preparations for Operation OVERLORD in 1944. The village of Broadmayne made up part of D-Day marshalling area 'D5'. From here units such as the 1st Inf Div & 2nd Rangers gathered prior to embarkation from the ports of Weymouth & Portland.
These caches have been placed as the village prepares to mark the 70th anniversary of Operation OVERLORD with a re-enactment camp and vintage village fete (http://tinyurl.com/nrw8m8q).
A documentary has also been prepared to mark the event http://broadmayne1944.wix.com/broadmayne1944#!films/csfj
This area made up Camp C. Large numbers of Nissen huts could be found in the fields on both sides of the lane. The Green Hut here now sits on a concrete plinth where an original hut once stood.
