Geocache Description:

The Sturdies Bay Trail sign marks the beginning of the Galiano Trails network. Your journey into the incredible forests, scented with cedar and earth begins here. Whaler Bay is behind you (a great place to swim in the lazy, hot summer evenings). As you pass by the sign-arch, look around for the cache is near!

The Sturdies Bay Trail begins near the head of Whaler Bay, only a few minutes walk from the ferry dock. The trail leads along Sturdies Bay Road, past the elementary school, library and island pub. Side trails lead off to the Bluffs where hikers can enjoy amazing views of the Southern Gulf Islands. We choose the iconic sign at the head of the trail as a starting point for our geocache because it signifies the start of a hunt - the treasure being the nature experience that makes Galiano the Gem of the Gulf Islands!
