The cache is located on top of Flattop Mt. a former lookout site in the Gifford Pinchot national forest NW of the town of Trout Lake. Rough forest roads to site high clearance vehicles recommended.
Description from (Fire Lookouts of the Northwest). 4 mile NW of Trout Lake FS 1921: 16X20 frame house on E end (moved to W end in 1930: 2 screened porches and cupola added in 1934 destr'd c1960). c1930 7X7' frame cab at E end (still there 97). 1933: L-5 cab at E end (destr'd 1946). 1946 2 story 14X14' frame cab w/ sloped windows & curved hip roof (post-war prototype still ther 97) at E end.
