Geocache Description:

Three Lakes claims to be "The Single Best" town in America. Well, that's quite a claim, what makes it so? Is it the location, the cultural history of the place or the atmosphere and charm of this sleepy little northwoods town this claim is chained to? This new series will give you a little insight into this puzzling question and perhaps an answer of your own.

Three Lakes has its share of memorials and markers as well. Here, in Cy Williams Park, there are 3 such memorial stones and an historical marker about the park's namesake. One stone is dedicated by a former Wisconsin Governor to the Chain of Lakes, and two others are dedicated to significant individuals. As observers of memorail stones, we rely heavily on the little nuggets of information contained on their plaques and quite often there's little more to go on save a name and a few dates. Thankfully, the sport of geocaching, and particularly geocache puzzles, entices us to dig just a little deeper and better appriciate why stones like these and their dedications exist in such public spaces in the first place. Here are a few questions about each memorial stone and Cy's marker. Some answers will come right from the stones and marker and some will require a little on-line sleuthing.

Historical Marker: Perhaps the most well known figure to call Three lakes home, Fred "Cy" Williams (also known as the Home-Run King) was one of the baseball's early greats. He was the first National League player to hit E00 home runs and was tied by Babe Ruth with a seasonal career high of DC home runs and had a lifetime record of 251.

Stone One: If you did the first cache in this series, you'll be quite familiar with this claim and the information presented here. According to this plaque, The Eagle River and Three Lakes Chain is the World's largest inland chain of lakes comprised of JG lakes with a total of B7I miles of shoreline!

Stone Two: This individual played a significant role in the Town's history as its first Fire Chief. This is one such case where not much information is contained here nor on-line for this hero whose first name contains H characters.

Stone Three: This individual was one of EA charter members of the Club represented on the beach facility behind the stone. That Club was founded in 19AE and celebrated its 6Fth anniversary in 2012.

All Three Lakes | SS caches are meant to be watercraft retrievable. You are advised to approach them by water, even if, in some cases, there seems to be way to get to them via land.
