Geocache Description:


1914 ~ 2014  100 years since the start of The Great War.  The Haggi are taking you on a tour of war memorials

 

Portsoy war memorial stands outside the hall on Seafield Street. It is a rectangular block with a flared base standing on a two-step base of rough hewn granite blocks. It is surmounted by a kilted soldier with Glengarry, standing head bowed holding an inverted rifle. The statue is carved from silver-grey Creetown graniteand was the work of Messrs Stewart & Co, Aberdeen. It commemorates the dead of both World War I and II. Below the main inscription on the front is a carved wreath. The memorial is surrounded by a small wrought-iron enclosure. It was unveiled 11 November 1923 by Colonel J. J. George, of Macduff, Deputy Lieutenant and County Convener.

On the left hand side while stood on pavement,how many Royal Army Medical Corps men are there ?  x 2 = C

How many men from the Merchant Navy are there ?  = K  x 4 = AB

How many Royal Marines + Royal Field Artillery ? = J

K -1 = E

Now looking on the right hand side of the memorial, How many Royal Navy men are there? = F

How many Wing Commanders are there ? = G

Add together the number of Royal Navy men,Royal Air Force men and men from the Highland Light Infantry = I

 

The final co~ords are a short drive away and cache is under a concrete diagonal, there is parking in a layby
