Long before there were Wasilla and Palmer, there were Knik and Matanuska. Knik still has a fraction of its former population, but Matanuska has dwindled to a small handfull of humble abodes. Back when Palmer was only the name of an early Valley pioneer and businessman, Matanuska was a thriving town beside the railroad tracks with stores, a hotel, post office, a school, and a social hall. Due to frequent flooding and the rise of the town of Palmer, Matanuska died. You will find the cache a few yards into the scrubby woods off Matanuska Townsite Road. The cache is well camoed, but in plain sight.
