Der Malerweg - man begegnet ihm immer wieder auf den Wochenendtouren durch die Sächsische Schweiz und irgendwann will man es genau wissen und diesen Fernwanderweg vor der Haustür auch mal selbst wandern. Cachen soll natürlich auch sein und es liegt ja genug am Weg. Aber, gibt es auch dem Malerweg gewidmete Cache(s)? In gewisser Weise ja (GC553YB) - dieser orientiert sich an der historischen Route und folgt ihr in umgekehrter Richtung. Allerdings deckt er nur einen Teil der neuzeitlichen Malerwegroute ab.
So entstanden 2 Projekte - den Malerweg zu laufen und die Tagesetappen mit Caches zu versehen. Beide sind Schritt für Schritt gewachsen. Neben dieser Etappe gibt es nun auch den Malerweg II, den Malerweg III, den Malerweg IV und den Malerweg V. Über die mit dem Weg verbundenen Persönlichkeiten und Sehenswürdigkeiten gibt es genug zu lesen. Die Cachreihe wird sich deshalb eher an den kleinen, weniger beachteten Dingen am Wegesrand entlang hangeln, schließlich sollt Ihr Euch die Caches ja draußen erarbeiten 
. Der eine oder andere Punkt hat auch Beziehungen zu Caches entlang des Weges, so dass es nicht zu langweilig wird.
Der Malerweg in seiner heutigen Fassung erstreckt sich auf beiden Elbseiten über ca. 120km - rechtselbisch von Liebethal nach Schmilka und linkselbisch zurück von Schmilka nach Pirna.
Die erste - 17 km lange - Etappe beginnt am Eingang zum Liebethaler Grund und führt über Lohmen, Wehlen und die Bastei nach Rathen. Prinzipiell kann man am Start parken, allerdings liegt das Ende der Etappe ziemlich weit weg, so dass sich hier eher öffentliche Verkehrsmittel empfehlen. Zum Start fahren die Busse G/L des OVPS. Wer mag, kann auch vom Bahnhof Pirna nach Liebethal zu Fuß gehen - die Etappe bleibt trotzdem gut schaffbar (22 km).
Hier handelt es sich um ein Naturschutzgebiet, die offiziellen Wege müssen zu keiner Zeit verlassen werden.
Damit sowohl Natur als auch Cache ein langes Leben haben, haltet Euch bitte daran! Das gilt insbesondere am Final. Hier wird ein Kletterzugang benutzt, der am Malerweg beginnt. Bitte nutzt gegebenenfalls Hint und Spoiler, anstelle ziellos durch das Gelände zu stapfen.
Station 1 - N50° 59.798 E13° 57.506: Informationstafel zum Malerweg am Liebethaler Grund
Die Tafel gibt eine kurze Einführung zum Malerweg. Im oberen Teil seht ihr einen Stich der Lochmühle. Wer hat diesen angefertigt? Der 2. Buchstabe des Vornamens (Buchstabenwert) liefert Euch A.
Station 2 - N50° 59.(A-1)(2*A) E13° 58.(A-5)(A^2-2*A+3): Inschrift zum Wegebau
Wann wurde der Weg durch den Grund angelegt? Die dritte Stelle der Jahreszahl ist B (xxBx).
Station 3 - N50° 59.(A-B+2)(A-1)(B+2) E13° 58.(A^2+B)(B/2): Studentisches Feiern
Eine Plakette am Fels kündet von einem studentischen Höhepunkt. In welchem Jahr fand dieser statt? Die letzten beiden Stellen der Jahreszahl ergeben C (xxcc, C=cc).
Station 4 - N50° 59.(A*C+C+3*B-2) E13° 59.(C-10)A: Ein Gedicht
Hier findet Ihr ein Gedicht, welches dem Malwerweg gewidmet ist. Wer ist der/die Autor(in)? Der Buchstabenwert des ersten Buchstaben im Nachnamen verrät Euch D. Da des Gedicht aktuell nicht da zunsein scheint, kann man D auch wie folgt alternativ ermitteln: Folgt man dem roten Punkt gemäß Wegweiser in Richtung Norden geht es zum ...? Der Buchstabenwert des ersten Buchstaben liefert ebenfalls D.
Station 5 - N51° 00.(D-A-B+1)(A-2*B)(B-4) E14° 00.(3*D+10*C-3*B^B+A-3): Neuzeitlicher Stein
Hier gibt es was für technisch interessierte Menschen zu sehen, was dem Normalwanderer vielleicht eher egal ist (?). Auf einem Stein findet Ihr neben einer Reihe von Zahlen auch eine Abkürzung mit 3 Buchstaben. Die Summe der drei Buchstabenwerte sei E.
Station 6 - N50° 59.(E-A*B-D+1)(A*D) E14° 01.(E+2*D+B)(A/B): Wehrt Euch!
Hier wird eines Ereignisses vor langer Zeit gedacht. In welchem Monat (F) fand es statt?
Station 7 - N50° 58.(F-1)(F*D) E14° 02.(F-B-1)(2*E+D+F-2): Kritzelei am Fels
Graffiti ist kein Phänomen der Gegenwart. Auch früher schon wurden auf diesem Wege Gebäude und Landschaft "verschönert". An den Koordinaten findet Ihr den Beleg des Besuchs eines Herrn C.J. aus L. In welchem Jahr fand dieser statt? G ergibt sich aus den den letzten beiden Ziffern der Jahreszahl (xxgg, G=gg).
Station 8 - N50° 57.(G+D+1)B E14° 02.(F-A+B-1)(E-F): Etwas wirklich historisches
Wann wurde das hier beschriebene Objekt erstmals erwähnt? Aus der Jahreszahl ohne Jahrhundert ermittelt Ihr H (xxhh, H=hh). Gerade nicht da - H=69.
Station 9 - N50° 57.(H+D+A+B)(F-1) E14° 03.(H+D-A)F: Grenzstein
An den Koordinaten findet Ihr einen alten Grenzstein. Dieser trägt 2 dreistellige Zahlen. Die größere der beiden Zahlen sei I, die kleinere K.
Final - N50° (B+D+E).(E-F+H+I) E14° 0(A-B).(K-H-D): Endlich!!
Ihr habt es geschafft! An den berechneten Koordinaten findet Ihr die Dose. Aufgrund der Cachedichte in Rathen liegt das Final ein klein wenig abseits des Malerwegs. Es ist aber über markierte Pfade und Kletterzustiege zu erreichen, die nicht verlassen werden müssen und dürfen. Also nicht quer durch die Landschaft, sondern OSM und das GPS konsultieren! The Malerweg (Painters' Way) - A long-distance walking route in Saxon Switzerland. This series of caches is dedicated to the trail. There are also other caches linked to it (see e.g. GC553YB) but our series is the one which intends to follow the trail as waymarked in full length and in day-long sections.
The cache series is the outcome of 2 projects - to walk the tour in full ourselves and to create a dedicated set of caches. Both did gradually advance. Beside this first section there are four more - Malerweg II, Malerweg III, Malerweg IV and Malerweg V. The cache series will follow less noticed points of interest along the route and of course there are numerous other caches to be found along the way.
The Malerweg stretches about 120km on both sides of the Elbe river - from Liebethal to Schmilka on the right side and back to Pirna on the left side.
My first section of the way starts at the Liebthal valley and ends in the village of Rathen, passing Lohmen, Wehlen and the Bastei bridge. This is a walk of about 17 km. There are parking possibilities close to the starting point, but as start and final of the section are far away from each other, public transport is the better option. The start can be reached via the OVPS buses G/L. You can also walk from Pirna station, adding a few more kilometers (22 in total). The end of this first stage is close to Rathen station.
You are walking in a natural reserve, all permitted paths are marked and must not be left at any time.
In order to preserve nature as well as the cache, please strictly obey this rule! This applies in particular to the final location. The final is reached through a path which starts on the Malerweg. The path is an access trail for rock climbing (marked with a black triangle on white ground). If you are unsure please use hint and spoiler instead of going cross country.
Stage 1 - N50° 59.798 E13° 57.506: Information board about the Malerweg
The board introduces the Malerweg. An engraved picture on the top shows the Lochmühle. Who has created the picture (first name in the caption below)? The value of the second letter in the first name of the person is A.
Stage 2 - N50° 59.(A-1)(2*A) E13° 58.(A-5)(A^2-2*A+3): Building of the Trail
An inscription in the rock tells you, when this trail through the valley has been laid. Take the 3rd digit of the year as B (xxBx).
Stage 3 - N50° 59.(A-B+2)(A-1)(B+2) E13° 58.(A^2+B)(B/2): Student Party
A bronze plate commemorates a student party. What year was it (Roman numbers)? Take the last two digits of the year as C (xxcc, C=cc).
Stage 4 - N50° 59.(A*C+C+3*B-2) E13° 59.(C-10)A: A Poem
On a wooden board you see a poem in German language. The bottom line names the author. Take the value of the first letter in the family name as D. As an alternative (the poem seems to be gone at the moment): If you follow the trail marked with a red circle to the North - Where does the signpost point to? Take the value of the first letter in the destination as D.
Stage 5 - N51° 00.(D-A-B+1)(A-2*B)(B-4) E14° 00.(3*D+10*C-3*B^B+A-3): A Modern Stone
Here you find a stone with some engravings. One face shows a well known 3-letter abbreviation. Take the sum of the values of the 3 letters as E.
Stage 6 - N50° 59.(E-A*B-D+1)(A*D) E14° 01.(E+2*D+B)(A/B): Resist!
This stone commemorates an event long ago. It is described in German language only, but you should be able to guess the month of the event from the text facing the path (F).
Stage 7 - N50° 58.(F-1)(F*D) E14° 02.(F-B-1)(2*E+D+F-2): Graffiti
Graffiti is not only a nowadays phenomenon. Also in past times people scribbled on buildings and other things. Here you find an inscription of a C.J. from L. Which is the year of the inscription? The last two digits tell you G (xxgg, G=gg).

When this object has been mentioned first? The board is in German only again, so just take the earliest year you can find. The year without the century is H (xxhh, H=hh). Currently missing. H=69.

The stone at the coordinates carries a number of engravings. There a two 3-digit numbers among them. The larger of the numbers shall be I, the smaller K.

You made it! The box is a bit off the Malerweg, but can be reached through marked trails for climber's access. As this is a national park please keep on the trails, it is not necessary (and not allowed) to leave them. OSM and your GPS can tell you where they are. Checker and spoiler will help you.
