The Sentier de Grande Randonée GR1 NC, or the Great Trekking Trail, is a (at present) seven stage hike across the lower half of New Caledonia. It begins at the abandonned forced labor mining town of Prony and proceeds north and west to end at the newer dam of Dumbea. You can read about the entire GR1, in English or French, right here.
My daughter and I will attempt to walk all seven stages over the next few months. This past weekend we completed the first stage, though we ended up doing a lot more walking than expected (because we left our car at the end of Stage 2 instead of at the end of Stage 1). We placed a geocache along the way, as we will do for each stage. A couple of months ago, we placed a cache to mark the start of the GR1: Au debut de GR1.

Le Sentier de Grande Randonée GR1 NC est une (actuellement) sept randonnée en scène dans la sud de Nouvelle-Calédonie. Elle commence au travail forcé ville minière abandonnée de Prony et procède au nord et à l'ouest à la fin du plus récent au barrage de Dumbéa. Ma fille et moi tenteront de marcher tous les sept étapes au cours des prochains mois. Ce week-end dernier, nous avons terminé la première étape, mais nous avons fini par faire beaucoup plus marcher que prévu (parce que nous avons laissé notre voiture à la fin de l'étape 2 au lieu de la fin de l'étape 1). Nous avons placé une géocache le long du chemin, comme nous allons le faire pour chaque étape. Il y a quelques mois, nous avons placé un cache pour marquer le début de la GR1: Au debut de GR1
