A Cleaner Downtown Core Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

The GO! Team: Thank you everyone that came to the event!!

While it looked like it was going to be a terrible day out there, mother nature decided to be kind and allow us to have a dry CITO. Many of you that went out came back with your bag full of trash and put them in the big bin that was here at Centennial Square, so it was nice to see there was something out there for you to clean up.

Also many of you shared stories like, some muggles stopped and picked up a few pieces to put in my bag, or this one person stopped me to say thank you. While over here in the square where Mrs. GO Team and a couple others were cleaning, a truck with city workers came in and thanked us too!

This was so well received that I think we could see ourselves doing this one annually, but time will only tell!

Thanks again everyone!!!

Geocache Description:

CITO_TITLE

Sunday April 26th, 2015
~9:30am to 10:30am~

Downtown Victoria. Jewel of South Vancouver Island, and gateway to all the adventures the island holds. Almost everyone who comes to the island pretty much end up here first, and this is usually their first impression.

Victoria is usually a very clean place, being a tourism hub we need it to be that way! However, there are times when it is not. And those times are the weekend and usually after a Saturday night. This is because there are no city workers to clean up, and also due to weekend night fun partakers throwing about their trash.

We have had many CITO weekends here in the South Island, but never one like this. We have in the past been cleaning up parks, or removing invasive plant species. There is nothing wrong with that at all, our parks deserve to be trash and invasive plant free. But I think this time we should turn our eye towards town, and make it shine just a little bit more. Come join us downtown, and pick up some trash here.

What you need:

You will need to bring gloves appropriate for picking up garbage. However if you don't have any, or just plain forgot to bring some, we will have on hand a box of Nitrile gloves (latex allergy friendly).
Other than that you will need only yourself.

We will also supply the bags. Since we can't just fill big black garbage bags with trash and leave them in town, we will supply you with small bags that you can partially fill, half fill, or fully fill and can be disposed of in any city garbage receptacle.

What we will do:

First we will meet at the above mentioned coordinates which is Centennial Square. There we will hand out the bags we will be supplying you with, and nitrile gloves to anyone who needs them.

After a brief talk going over how we are going to do this, you will be set free to wander the streets of Downtown Victoria picking up trash. You can go as a solo individual or team up with friends. But whatever you do please do not leave the core. We are not cleaning James Bay, or Oak Bay or Esquimalt.

To set boundaries don't pass North of Harold St, East of Blanchard St, South of Bellville St, or cross West of the Johnston Street Bridge or pass the Parliament Buildings (stay off the Parliament lawns all together).
You can refer to the included map to see the boundaries if you are unclear by clicking HERE.
Also please stay off the Empress Hotel Lawns too, they have their own staff for those purposes!

Once you are completed and or the hour is up, head on back to where we started and join us for a cup of coffee and a snack. We will have a traveler of coffee and some cookies that you can enjoy, and get your energy back.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
