62 acres dominated by what was once the settling ponds for the City of Lewiston Wastewater Treatment plant. Now used for habitat restoration.
The Nature Preserve area has become a destination for many area local, regional, and national birdwatchers. Since the decommissioning of the sewage ponds, birds on the migratory route have used the area as a resting point in the migration, allowing for birders to capture a variety of bird species. In recent years birders have documented approximately 300 species of birds at the site. In the Fall of 2013, conversion of the vegetation cover to prairie grass was started allowing for even more diversity of wildlife.
Several pheasants were spotted enroute to GZ. Area pretty dry this time of year.
Trails planned in the future...stay tuned...
