We'll have 20 all-new physical caches, each with a code word. Find code words in 15 of the caches to claim the 2015 Geocoin (one per family). There will only be 150 coins minted!
All of the new caches will be published the morning of the event. This year's caches will be set up in a geotour style covering approximately 90 scenic miles. Please note that cell phone reception will be non-existent over most of the route.
9AM - Event Kickoff - welcome and raffle; passport sheets will be handed out. For those using the geocaching app on their cell phone, you will need to download the caches prior to leaving town due to limited/non-existent cell reception over most of the route. For those with GPS units, we suggest bringing your laptop with you to download the GPX files for the caches. Free wi-fi is available at the Chamber office.
The Chamber of Commerce office will be open until 4PM the day of the event.
5PM - let's gather at OUTPOST PIZZA PUB AND GRILL, 201 W MAIN in JOHN DAY to swap stories and have something to eat after a long day of caching. We'll start setting up at 4PM for the evening social and to give out coins to those who didn't get a chance to claim one earlier. There will be items to raffle here as well.
If you are unable to attend the kickoff event, log sheets will be available outside the Chamber of Commerce office. After the event, coins can be claimed at:
Grant County Chamber of Commerce, 301 West Main Street, John Day - Monday-Saturday 9AM-12PM and 1PM to 4PM.
Kam Wah Chung Visitor's Center, 125 NW Canton Street, John Day - Sunday 9AM-12PM and 1PM to 5PM. Geocoins must be picked up in person, we are unable to mail coins.
Please log a "Will Attend" so we know how many folks will be coming or "Write A Note" if you are not able to attend the Kickoff but expect to complete the requirements after the event during the summer.
