On April 24, 1824 B.C., after 10 years of the Trojan War, Greek warriors appeared to admit defeat as they sailed for Greece, leaving behind a large wooden horse outside the gates of Troy. Claiming the offering, the Trojans wheeled the horse inside their city to celebrate the victory.Shortly thereafter, Greek soldiers emerged from the Trojan Horse and captured the City of Troy. As Virgil later noted, "Beware of strangers bearing gifts".
The Trojan Horse was left behind exactly 3199 years ago today. We will commemorate that event at the entrance to the cruise ship pier, and do so in time to ensure we are not left behind. As we are in port from 7 to 4, let's plan to meet from 2:45 to 3:15. A group photo is planned.
As there is only one ship in port today, there may be some flexibility if another time proves better.
