Deeper Underground (Cumbria) Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: A little late with this one - sorry. Busy busy!
I think everyone who attended has logged (apart from me. Pop it on your Watchlist for photos when I get my act together) and since it's overdue archiving... I'd a wonderful time here - thank you all for joining me in this wonderful, magical location. So many people! [:)]
Cheers again for coming. I hope to see you at another of my 'off the beaten track' events. I intend to be back in the area some time and have my eye on a few interesting locations... I'll post details here, so if you'd like to see them, do the Watchlist thing!

Geocache Description:

I've always wanted to hold a cache event underground, and even attempted one in the past, but luck was not on my side... Until now! As I'll be in this beautiful area I thought cachers might appreciate a subterranian meet in a spectacular location, with all the usual cache-event trimmings: Caching chat, trackable-item swapping and so on. If you're new to caching or cache meets, you'll be made especially welcome.

Where: Cathedral Cavern (disussed quarry with free public access), near Slaters Bridge, Little Langdale, Cumbria. At the above co-ords - or at least below them.

When: 1pm-1.30pm, Wednesday July 22nd 2015.

What: An unusual gathering of cachers (I rather enjoy these. See my profile for more details!) in a memorable location, to chit caching chat, exchange (or just pass on!) TBs, Geocoins and other travel items and have a lunch-time sandwich underground. It can be cool down there, so dress for a cave (no crawling or anything of that sort though!) and in case of bad weather... well, it's not indoors, but there is a roof :)

Who: Cachers from far and wide! Although the area is not without its hazards, access to the site is very simple and kid/oldster friendly. I think well-behaved geo-hounds are fine too, on a lead.

Why: Having held the UK's highest cache event on top of the shelter on top of Ben Nevis, back in June 2011, I've had ambitions to hold the lowest. One day I'll reach the fens, but in the meantime, an underground cache event has always evaded me too. I've attended ones with an optional underground element (at a Northamptonshire pub near a disused railway tunnel with a cache up it, and Big Pit in South Wales, for example) but never actually had to head below the surface to attend.

There are threads about my July 2015 events on the UK Groundspeak and GAGB forums.
