WWFM XII - Gyro Park Freeze Mob Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

The A-Team: Based on the log slips, everyone has logged this now. Our official attendance was 38, which isn't as high as past years, but was still a decent turnout. Thanks for coming out, everyone!

Geocache Description:

Saturday, June 13th, 2015 at exactly 10:00 am local time

Tens of thousands of geocachers around the world will seemingly appear out of nowhere, all at exactly the same time, for a...

WORLD WIDE FLASH MOB!

A "flash mob" is where a group of people seemingly appears out of nowhere and starts doing something in public.

What's a "world wide flash mob"? It's where hundreds of geocaching flash mob events all around the world are coordinated to happen at exactly the same time. Last year, a whopping 27,188 cachers attended 792 events in 52 countries! Our Victoria WWFM event had 71 attendees!

The Theme
This year we're going to do something a bit different: a freeze mob!

The Plan
Leading up to the start time, please don't congregate at the posted coordinates. Enjoy the view, take pictures, play games, and otherwise act as if you're just a run-of-the-mill muggle who's enjoying Cadboro-Gyro Park.

At exactly 10:00 am on our GPSrs, a whistle will blow and everyone should freeze-in-place for 60 seconds in the middle of whatever you were doing. Please make every effort to be performing some action at the time we freeze, not just walking around. It will be fun to see people frozen in the process of throwing a frisbee, tripping and halfway-fallen to the ground, posing for a photo, or giving someone a high-five, just to name a few possibilities. Be creative! Keep in mind that you'll need to hold your position for 60 seconds, so make sure you don't get stuck in a hard-to-hold position (this isn't Twister! ). We'll be using GPS-time down to the second, so you can use your own GPSr or a synchronized watch to keep track of exactly when we'll be freezing so you can anticipate and time your actions.

Once we've been frozen for 60 seconds, another whistle will blow and everyone will resume whatever they were doing. Keep acting like a muggle-in-the-park for a couple more minutes to complete the spectacle and ensure that all the real muggles are thoroughly confused! The A-Team and TheG-Force will set up at a table near the posted coordinates and the freeze mob will then be complete.

Like last year, you'll sign slips of paper as your log entry with your geocaching name and the number of members who are there. If your caching name is a couple or a family, please sign one slip with the total number of attending members, not one slip for each individual member. These slips will double as your entry in a raffle for the chance to win a special WWFM XII geocoin!

At 10:20 am, we'll take a group photo, followed immediately by the draw for the geocoin. Everyone can continue to mingle until the event officially ends at 10:30 am, but feel free to hang around beyond that time and chat with other cachers. There's no need to run away right at that time!

Other Info
This event will begin at exactly 10:00:00 am, so make sure you give yourself enough time to get there and prepare before the start time.

Unfortunately, Groundspeak has confirmed that a souvenir will NOT be awarded this year.

This event isn't just for geocachers. If you have some muggle friends that you want to introduce to geocaching, you're more than welcome to bring them along! If you do, either get them to sign their own log/raffle slip or add them to the number on yours so they get included in the count of attendees. There'll likely also be some muggles on site that will be wondering what the heck is going on, so we'll have some brochures explaining geocaching that we can hand out to them.

Let's have fun and make this a great and memorable event!
