Geocache Description:

After traveling across the Mekong by a ferry you will find yourself in quiet and peaceful Prek Bongkong village. There you will be able to see the silkworms and experience the traditional silk weaving. You will be surprised how quickly it is possible to get out of Phnom Penh's busy streets and into the peaceful countryside.

How to get to the cache

You can choose any of your favorite modes of transport: bicycle, moto, tuk tuk or car. Phnom Penh's streets are known to be a bit too busy for inexperienced drivers, but as soon as you get to the other side of the Mekong river you will be able to go on smaller, less busy, gravel roads which go parallel to the main asphalt road.

Best time to start your way to the cache would be as early in the morning as possible, in that way you will be able to avoid the midday heat.

First stop: ferry crossing (marked as a waypoint).

There are many ways to get to the cache, but this is one of the easiest. Ferry crossing should cost no more than 1000 riels per person (0.25 USD) + a little extra depending on your mode of transport. It leaves every few minutes, so you will never need to wait for more than 5 minutes for the next one.

After you arrive on the other side of the river you will need to turn left. There are two options, first, you can make a left turn as soon as possible and follow the river until you reach the cache. You will see small markets, rice fields and villages. The road will be mostly covered with gravel and sand. Second, in case you want the most efficient way to get to the cache you will need to go straight for a while and then turn left on the main asphalt road which is also marked as a waypoint.

Cache is hidden in one of the silk weaving households called Heng Naysim. Entrance is free for everyone and the owners are informed about what Geocaching is as well as the location of this cache.

Near the cache you will find several households that offer great cultural experience - you will be able to see the silkworms, try silk weaving and taste local fruits.

How to get back to the Phnom Penh

You can choose to go back to Phnom Penh exactly the same way you got to the cache, just trace back your steps and you will be back at the ferry crossing.

If you have extra time on your hands then there is also a small ferry leading to the one of the islands on Mekong river. Islands are connected together with a metal bridge and they are great if you like to explore the countryside on your own. The only problem with this is that once you get off the islands, back in the city, the traffic will be much, much heavier all the way back to the center of Phnom Penh. If this is your first time in Asia and you are not sure about your driving skills then you should probably think twice before choosing to go on the busy roads. Remember to always wear a helmet.

Cache container is a small box with a log book and pencil. There is enough space for small items such as travel bugs.
