A Tombstone Every Mile is a song recorded by Maine-born country music artist Dick Curless and topped the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart at #5 in January, 1965. The song pays homage to the Maine truck drivers driving U.S. Route 2 in a particular section of the Haynesville Woods called Route 2A. This is an area around the small town of Haynesville in Aroostook County in northern Maine noted for many motor vehicle accidents. Truck drivers hauling potatoes out of the northern potato fields of Maine to market in Boston, and the dangerous hairpin turn in the route through Haynesville was the inspiration for the song. The area is noted for its ghost stories of the many truckers and drivers lost on this deadly road.

Being a Maine-iac myself, being raised on this song and Dick Curless, and seeing the opportunity for a cache at this rest area which is teaming with truck drivers - I figured this would be a perfect location to pay homage to my Northern roots and truck drivers.

Please bring your own pen and rehide as to keep muggles from getting hungry....

Congrats to RAHNNERGOTHUC for the FTF and for actually listening to the song!!!
