This site use to hold an ammo can in the bushes but due to muggles it was removed and archived. While investigating what to put here it turns out it is quite controversial whether or not this was actually an underground railroad with no real evidence supporting it besides a white shirt and anecdotal stories pasted down. Needless to say that isn't the point come check out this cool site and pretend if you would what it would have been like. While you are at it check out the Joshua Chamberlain park at the top of the hill all of that is factual history.
"In 1995, during a Maine Department of Transportation (DOT) road improvement project, the home was torn down and in the process a “slave-style shirt” was found tucked in the eaves of the attic ... knowing the controversy over the destruction of the house, the DOT hid their finding until the demolition was completed. The following year a stone-lined shaft was also discovered on the site – the shaft was located where the root cellar of Holyoke’s summer kitchen once stood." I recommend parking at the doing so at the gas station at the top of the hill but there are other places you could try. Good luck and happy caching. Please make sure the cache goes back exactly as found, it should never be muggled again if that is always done.
