Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Brownstone Trail. This cache is one of two located on this trail. Please check out all the caches we've set up to help visitors explore our trails and public preserves. This is an easy, flat trail about 2 miles in length. It's a great hike for families. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome. Bug spray is recommended.

A highly utilized and scenic trail that meanders along the brownstone cliffs of the Lake Superior Shoreline in Bayfield, The Brownstone Trail was established by the Bayfield Regional Conservancy in 1996. This urban trail follows an old railway corridor and connects the City of Bayfield’s historic downtown area to Pikes Bay Marina and Port Superior located in the Town of Bayfield.

Frequently used by school children, area residents, and tourists, the trail provides a scenic recreation opportunity for hikers, joggers, cyclists, while providing a means for commuting to and from the city on foot.

One of the many remarkable aspects of the Brownstone Trail is that it exists out of the generosity of 22 private landowners who permit the public to walk across their land and have granted permanent trail easements to the Bayfield Regional Conservancy.
