Geocache Description:


It’s hard to believe that this is our 5th anniversary for this event. Five years ago the Albany Downtown Association sponsored us in hosting a geocaching challenge. The next year, our sponsor was the Albany Visitors Association and they’ve supported us ever since. Last year, Albany Parks & Rec partnered with us to provide onsite support.

Our Challenge has grown each year. Our first year we ordered 150 coins and had 50 left over. Last year, we upped the count to 175 and had 25 left. This year, we’ve ordered 200 special anniversary coins as we expect an even greater number of participants.



The Challenge begins at 10am in the parking lot of Lum Yuen’s Restaurant & Lounge, 1236 Price Road SE. This is a new location from years past.



A challenge course has been determined and each caching household will be issued a challenge passport when they check in. The course has been carefully laid out so that you will also have the opportunity to find caches in the area. PLEASE ENTER LUM YUEN’S PARKING LOT FROM HIGHWAY 20. See the posted entry coordinates.



Completed passports can be brought to Albany Pizza King, 231 Lyons Street SE (N44 38.161 W123 06.270) between 3:00 and 6:00pm the day of the event. PLEASE NOTE – THIS IS A ONE-DAY EVENT.

As you travel around Albany completing the Challenge, you want to be sure and stop by the Albany Carousel and pick up one of their new trackable geocoins. They can be found in the gift shop.



Again this year, the Albany Visitors Association has donated the door prize which will be given away in a drawing to be held at 6:00pm at Albany Pizza King. Also, during the 6:00pm drawing, the Albany Parks & Rec is providing a special fifth anniversary door prize. A free balloon ride will be given away to one of this year’s Challenge participants to be used the Thursday of the 2016 Art & Air Festival weekend. All those completing the Challenge will be eligible for both of these prizes and you don’t have to be present to win.

Some of the businesses in Albany have also donated prizes to be given away at the “IT’S A WRAP 3” event (GC5ZCJC) following the Challenge. You’ll want to be sure and hang around for that. Also, don’t forget the meet & greet, “2015 Art & Air Night Glow Meet & Greet” event (GC5ZBBG) the night before.
