Geocache Description:

Lincoln State Park

Lakeside Shelter Area

Saturday, November 7, 2015

9-11a.m. (CST)

Cache In Trash Out (CITO) is an activity intimately tied to Geocaching. While out there on a cache hunt, we collect litter along the trails and properly dispose of it. Together, we make an enormous positive impact with just a little joint effort. So let’s give back to Lincoln State Park this year! Our Geocaching with Abe hosts have been so helpful and accommodating. Let’s pitch in to show our appreciation by helping to beautify the park.

We’ll plan to meet near the shore of Lake Lincoln at 9am (CST) (just follow your GPSr to the posted coordinates…there’s plenty of parking nearby). There is a group of large rocks that sit about halfway between the Lakeside Shelter and the boat ramp. We’ll meet there to sign the log, chat, and grab supplies. We’ll have trash bags and gloves on hand.

For this year’s CITO event, we’ll be learning a few new things. In addition to helping pick up any trash we see and cleaning nearby trails of limbs, we’ll also help the park by removing some invasive species. A staff member from the park will be present to help explain what invasive species are and how they affect the park. After a short tutorial, we head in different directions to clean up and remove invasive species that we come across on the trails.

So come join us to do a good deed in a historic area. Abe himself used to swim in Lake Lincoln, although back then he just called it “that lake over yonder.” Legend has it he also built the world’s first birchbark canoe to traverse the lake to get to the other side. Of course, some of these facts may not be entirely truthful, but you can ask Abe yourself this weekend. He traditionally hangs out most of the day Saturday!

After we clean up, plan on hanging out the rest of the day for even more caching fun! Remember: There are OVER 600 Geocaches within a 25-mile radius of Lincoln State Park. So come on down and join us for a fun-filled weekend of Geocaching!

See ya soon!
