High-Five for the Earth!
Join your fellow cachers on Saturday morning near Girdwood to help GeocacheAlaska! clean up our 2-mile section of the Seward Highway for the Alaska DOT Adopt-A-Highway program. This is the third of three highway cleanups that we must complete during the year to remain a member of the program.
Meet at the highway pullout at 9:45am to sign in, register for door prizes, and get a mandatory DOT safety briefing. Starting at 10am, we will spend an hour picking up any and all trash along the highway, meeting again at about 11:30 am to consolidate the trash for a photo-op and then draw for door prizes (must be present to win).
This CITO site requires that we have a formal safety meeting prior to starting and that everyone wear a safety-vest while working along the roadway. It is also highly recommended that everyone wear safety glasses, gloves, and durable boots at this site. Per DOT rules, no children under 11 years old or dogs are allowed to participate in the cleanup (however, you may have kids and dogs present at the published coordinates as long as they are not participating in the highway cleanup and there is a responsible adult that will remain with them while the CITO is completed).
