Geocache Description:

Greetings from Madeline Island, named after Madeleine Cadotte, daughter of Chief White Crane and wife of fur trader Michael Cadotte. The Ojibwe (Chippewa) and other native peoples made their home here for hundreds of years before European contact.

***HAGEN FISHERIES***

The Hagen Family settled on Madeline Island to establish their fishery vocation. Their late 19th Century building is being restored and will serve as a future interpretive highlight at Big Bay State Park. This and other fisheries were an important part of the economics of the Lake Superior region as the population and wealth of the area prospered. Although there are not as many fisheries as earlier days, many local restaurants serve delicious trout, white fish, and others caught from these waters of Lake Superior by several hard-working fisheries you will find in Bayfield and Red Cliff. Look out over the waters from the island and you may see their fishing boats. Also, look for the many seagulls following the boats! p>

The logbook must be signed, otherwise there is no proof of your success.
