Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of geocaches placed by Texas A&M Forest Service to showcase various aspects of the agency and properties it manages. This is located at the La Grange Office.

The Texas A&M Forest Service established the La Grange office in a downtown location at the courthouse in 1963. In 1971, a new building and shop was built and staff moved to what is now the current location on South Reynolds Street. Originally, staff assisted residents and communities in five counties focusing on resource management and fire suppression.

Today, this office operates with the same goals in counties across Central and South-Central Texas. Examples of the types of work La Grange employees do include: support for local volunteer fire departments; assist landowners with tree establishment, disaster recovery, and oak wilt; complete work for the Forest Inventory and Analysis program; educate the public about wildfire prevention and mitigation; and emergency response dispatching for wildfires.

The La Grange Office is typically open during regular business of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday. For additional information, visit the office at 700 South Reynolds, La Grange, TX 78945 or call (979) 968-5555.
