There are two possible parking areas. If you park at N 42 50.547 W 89 29.761, the hike is 1.1 miles and the paths that you follow are seldom used. You will mostly be travelling through prairie. Long pants are recommended.
The other parking area (N 42° 50.589' W 89° 29.951') takes you through a wooded area before getting to the prairie. You will also most likely get wet as you have to cross a low area to get to the cache.
Plan on taking some time here.
The cache container is a standard 30 mil ammo box. At the time of the placement, the cache contained:
Camera - Take a picture of yourself at the site
Book - Max and Tom Cat
Tape Measure (Collector?)
Map Distance wheel
Marine Corp pin
10 Peso coin
Adapter plug for headphones
Cuff Links - pair
Hand-made Maple leaf
2 small figures
August 11, 2002 Went back to The Rock (or tried to I should say) but the deer trails I followed to get out were no longer there. It is amazing how the growth has hidden things. I took a route that was directly to the east from my house. There is no moisture in the woods or where there usually ankle deep water. Some of the grasses are now well over the head and the prickers are there. The bugs were not bad. I will probably try again in the coming week and report back. This time I will take my GSPr and do the bushwacking that will be necessary. You will notice that I've changed the difficulty number to a harder level. The Rock is still a very nice place to visit.
