Geocache Description:

Leap Year 2016

Starting at 6:00 p.m.

Raffle at 6:30 p.m. (Must be present to win)

I thought it would be nice to get together after work to enjoy a little geocaching fun and of course Leap Year. Hopefully it will be a time to catch up with other cachers, plan adventures, share travel bugs and stories and just plain enjoy!!! Some nibbles will be provided but feel free to bring your own beverages. Lets LEAP!!!

Leap Days are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the Earth's revolutions around the Sun. It takes the Earth approximately 365.242199 days (a tropical year) to circle once around the Sun. If we didn't add a day on February 29 nearly every 4 years, we would lose almost six hours every year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by approximately 24 days in relation to the seasons. So why not enjoy the Leap year with an event.

[Time to Leap ..... well how about leaping into a travel bug race??? Here is the idea, everyone interested in joining the race only needs to bring along a hitchhiker to attach to the travel bug. That cacher will get the chance to add to the name of the travel bug and at the end of the race be the winner of a wonderful prize. I will plan to launch all the bugs from "The Hole in One TB Hotel" and see how the bugs are able to gain miles and achieve objectives. The winner will be declared at the end of the year. So.... bring a hitchhiker and join in the fun!!! Some of the goals: Total Miles: equals same number of points. Every New State: 10 points. Every Picture Posted: 2 points. Every Visit to a Cache placed in 2000 and 2001: 50 points. (Cuz you know how I love those older caches)]
