ACCESS: The easiest, safest (keeping to an established walking track; no fence climbing required) and most scenic access route for this cache is to start at the Sundew Tk trailhead (waypoint provided; park at the end of Kirner Crt). Take the track to the left immediately after going through the tailhead gate.
** As always when bushwalking, please wear long pants and keep an eye out for snakes! **
This reserve protects a vegetation type known as box-gum grassy woodland, which is a threatened community listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Box-gum grassy woodland was once widespead across north east and central Victoria but was largely cleared over a century ago to make way for agriculture. Many of the remaining patches of grassy woodland have been heavily overgrazed. This vegetation community provide important habitat for a large number of animals, including rare and threatened species such as Superb Parrots, Regent Honeyeaters and Squirrel Gliders.
The walking tracks that meander across the hillside are named after some of the characteristic plants and animals - Tussock, Sundew, Kangaroo, Carex and Lily Tracks.
Enjoy this beautiful area!
