This is a major 3 day hike. You must carry in all your food and camping equipment and you must do this at high altitude. The hike starts at about 9,400 feet and goes up to 13,528 feet. It's about 13 miles in and 13 miles back out.
Please don't try this unless you are in reasonable shape and have done several big hikes recently. You will need a water filtration pump to refill your camel back. You will need some good rain gear because it rains almost every afternoon up here. Most important, you will need a good pair of hiking boots and several changes of socks. The ground tends to be soggy and wet. The boots will need to be well broken in to your feet so you don't get blisters. It's no fun to hike 26 miles on sore feet!
The meeting point is at the trailhead at Henry's Fork Campground. We would like to hit the trail by noon at the latest on Thursday the 15th. This should give everybody ample time to drive up to the trailhead and also plenty of time to hike 7 miles to the campsite at Dollar Lake before nightfall.
Access is from I-80 in Wyoming. Exit at Fort Bridger and head South. For more details on getting to the trail head see the Royal Treasure cache page.
So far we've got Cach-U-Nuts and BunkerDave committed to the expedition. We'd love to have more companions. Please post a note on this page if you are planning on joining us.
