Geocache Description:

Monument (stone marker) commemorating the site of colonial Fort Wentworth. Extremely easy virtual cache along the roadside of Route 3 in Northumberland, NH.

Fort Wentworth was ordered to be built in 1755 by Governor Wentworth. Rogers Rangers completed construction of the fort on the bank of the Connecticut River just below the mouth of the Upper Ammonoosuc River. The high bank of the river with pathways excavated to the rivers edge provided a readily defendable position with control over river traffic. The site of the fort is at the treeline across the field behind the Potter Farm.

To take credit for this geocache you should be able to answer this question about the Fort Wentworth monument beside the road. Be careful to make sure you are looking at the correct monument to properly answer this question! ---- What year was the monument (stone marker) placed by the Ruth Page Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution? Email your answer to me. (Please do not post the answer on the cache webpage. --- Thanks!)
