Greenland's first cache. The cache is located on top a moraine just south of the end of the Harald Moltke Glacier near Thule Air Base.
Bring small items to trade because of the small box. Do not hike in this area alone. Plan your trip ahead and let a responsible person know when you should be back. This is a long, strenuous hike and chance of injury is high. This cache is best accessed from the road leading East, just past Storm Shelter 11 at N76 33.6804 / W68 16.0086. Take the dirt road all the way to the end near the ice cap at N76 32.5740 / W68 6.1128. From there travel on foot in a NW direction across very rocky terrain for about 2.8 miles. Once you reach N76 34.2102 / W67 58.3056, you will have a terrific view of the Wolstenholme Fjord and the glacier. The descent down the mountain toward the glacier is very steep, nearly 45 degrees with about a 1400 foot elevation drop. Be extremely cautious of loose rocks. Once at the foot of the mountain, climb up the moraine adjacent to the glacier. You will find a rock cairn with the cache inside.
Admin note: cache placed on vacation, geocacher unaware of prohibition against placing caches that can't be maintained. There are no local geocachers in this area at this time. If there is one later who could adopt the cache it would be appreciated. If the cache is found to be in poor condition by a finder please remove it and ask the cache owner to archive it. Thanks.
