On this spot you will find a memorial. American music was changed forever following the original Winter Dance Party on February 2, 1959 at the Surf Ballroom in Iowa.
A plane on it's way to another performance crashed five miles north of Clear Lake, killing the young pilot Roger Peterson and rock-and-roll legends Buddy Holly, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and Ritchie Valens.
Located just outside the main entrance, the memorial to the late rockers commemorates their music, their style, and their unforgettable contribution to the music world.
To claim this cache you need to walk to your left from the memorial and stand right in front of the paybooth. In the sidewalk below your feet are a large number of messages on the brick sidewalk. The first four on the row nearest to the paybooth window all have the same family name on them. Email me the name you find there to claim the cache. Finds logged without this information will be deleted. Click here to email your answer to the cache owner
It would be nice to post a picture on yourself by the memorial too, but this is not compulsory.
If you do this cache and visit this great and historic location and the best you can think of for a log is "TFTC", then please don't bother.
