We got terribly lost while seeking the horror writer's final resting place in Swan Point Cemetery. I decided to record the GPS coordinates of his grave.
As we are entering haunted house season, I thought it might be of sufficient interest to mark it as a virtual cache. The cemetery overall is quite scenic, with fine examples of Victorian and Celtic grave sculpture.
When you see a intra-cemetery street sign "Avenue B - 276", you are very close.
The site doesn't quite show the wear of Jim Morrison's grave, but the "pilgrimage" of loyal fans is discreetly evident.
Verifying Question: According to his epitaph, who is he? E-mail your answer, don't post it here. (If I have to log into the geocaching site to respond to your email, I probably won't be prompt.)
UPDATE 10/28/02: Apparently there is now a no photo policy in the cemetery. There is a hidden camera watching over the grave. I guess they're worried about folks trying to do spells around Halloween. (Or more likely drunks causing mischief.) Please be respectful and appropriate when you attend.
UPDATE 6/14/04: Because this stuff is way below the scroll now:
Dogs are apparently not allowed in the cemetery.
Some possible alternative coordinates (listed in the logs)
N 41° 51.244 W 071° 22.858
N 41° 51.240 W 071° 22.860
This is my favorite log so far. (Done in the writing style of Lovecraft).
UPDATE 8/12/05: While I have received no official word, there've been reports from recent cachers that the cemetery owners are Really Uncomfortable with high traffic around this particular grave lately. I may need to archive it. Please use extreme discretion (per GPS use) and perhaps try to leisurely visit all of the site and not just this one spot.
