There are hundreds of historic synagogues (Temples, Shuls) all
over the world although in the US and some other countries, many
grand, old urban ones have been converted to churches after the
suburbanization of America. In Europe and other places many former
synagogues were abandoned due to World War II annihilation of the
local Jewish population. After the creation of the State of Israel,
many Jewish centers in Muslim nations were forcibly terminated,
leaving behind their grand synagogues.
