Cliff Dweller Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

WGA2: Hello,

The Wisconsin Geocaching Association has been contacted by the DNR recently regarding caches in High Cliff State Park.

Here's an excerpt from that correspondence:

... the park superintendent emphasizes that all caches placed at High Cliff State Park must be approved by him and nothing shall be placed on the slope of the escarpment - that is in addition to nothing being placed in the natural area below the escarpment - the area above and below the Lime Kiln Trail.

Historically, caches have been placed below the Tower area, which has a safety fence surrounding the drop offs. It is my understanding that this would now be an area banned to caching. That makes perfect safety sense to me. That area used to be a dump 50-100 years ago, and is riddled with broken glass. People using the tower often throw glass and other items (illegally) off the tower to see them smash below.

Lastly, I would like to add that a greater respect should be taken with regard to the High Cliff Cemetery - where recent caches have been hidden...

....So to sum it up - people must: Get the permits, let us know where the caches are (that's ALWAYS been a big beef with staff) and most of all respect the environment and stay safe....

Since I cannot identify exactly where all those places within the park are, and I do not know if the park superintendent has been contacted, I am forced to archive this cache.

Please, if you think your cache meets the above guidelines, I would be happy to un-archive and re-list your cache. If it does NOT meet the above guidelines, please remove your cache from the park as soon as possible.

Sorry for the hassle,
