The Leprechauns: Well, time to put this one to bed. Thanks again, everyone. More importantly, to demonstrate the good will we've built up with the State Parks, have a read of the following letter that I received from the Assistant Park Manager:

The staff at Raccoon Creek State Park would like to thank you and the geocache community for being instrumental in coordinating the outstanding litter clean up effort that was undertaken here at the park. The park staff has received numerous compliments about the clean up efforts especially along Cottage Road. Once again, thank you for your group effort at making Raccoon Creek State Park a cleaner and safer park for everyone to enjoy.

Geocache Description:

Be a part of the Cache-in, Trash-out park cleanup events to be held across the country in celebration of Earth Day on April 26th. Park staff is hosting a trail work day AND a general park cleanup day. They would love to have help from geocachers, along with other groups who use this park. The afternoon will be filled with food, fun, caching and shopping. Let's have a big turnout to show how much we appreciate our State Park resources!

The Park: Located in Beaver County just a few minutes west of the Pittsburgh Airport, Raccoon Creek State Park is a beautiful 7300 acre park that features Raccoon Lake, miles of hiking trails, camping, fishing, horseback riding and a nature center/wildflower preserve. The park can be reached from U.S. Route 30 or PA Route 18. Go to the Friends of Raccoon Creek State Park website for maps and directions, and to read about the park, volunteer opportunities, and a calendar of events. You'll want to print out a trail map!

The Cleanup and Trail Projects: Choose between the trail work team and the litter pickup team. The trail maintenance crew will assemble at 9:00 a.m. sharp at the main Park Office on Route 18, N40° 30.179' W080° 25.469' You'll help clean winter debris from existing trails and to put the finishing touches on a brand new 19-mile backpacking trail loop. Bring along work gloves and a pruning saw, if you have one... other tools will be provided. The litter pickup crew will assemble at 9:00 sharp at the above coordinates for our Picnic Shelter, Number 6 in the main picnic area on the South Shore of the Lake. If you arrive late, bring your own bag, head down to the beach and dam area, and pitch in by grabbing whatever litter you see. TAKE PICTURES of the trash you clean up!

The Food: At 12:30 p.m., the fun will begin with a picnic lunch at Shelter #6 (for the trail crew, just a short drive from the park office to the picnic area). The Leprechauns will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, condiments, plates, cups and utensils. Other cachers should read the notes below, to know what to contribute to a potluck feast.

The Geocacher's Supermarket: At lunchtime, you can pick up any Event T-shirts, Groundspeak merchandise or ammo cans that you ordered in advance from The Leprechauns. There will also be extras of some of the more popular items for sale, including the special shirts. If you placed an order, you will receive a confirming e-mail prior to the event, stating the total amount due. Ammo cans are $4 and T-shirts are only $3 each ($4 for extra large sizes.) All merchandise is sold to you AT COST. There will also be a display of some geocaching gear, and a chance to ask any questions you might have about geocaching.

The Geocaches: This park currently has NO caches, but The Leprechauns have placed four new permanent caches with the cooperation of park management under the new Pennsylvania State Park guidelines! There will be one or two other new caches placed by other geocachers. The new caches will be available on the website a few days before the event. There will also be three easier, temporary caches set up near the picnic area. Little Leprechaun's Kids-only Cache will be set up for the younger geocaching set, and will be filled with toys. The Groundspeak Cache will contain geocaching stickers, keychains and other official merchandise. The Travel Bug Exchange will be chock full of travelers looking to move! If you want to bring a bug, drop it onto this page, and give it to The Leprechauns to be hidden in the cache. Booklets will be available at the picnic shelter with cache printouts and maps for all the caches. I guarantee you, there will be more caches to hunt than there will be time available. This will make you return to the park for another visit!
