Water-Mill Traditional Cache
M.xati: Megszűnt, a karbantartás számomra erősen korlátozott. Remélem valakinek sikerül újratelepíteni a ládát! A hely megérdemli.
Discontinued, maintenance is severely limited for me. I hope someone manages to reinstall the crate! The place deserves it.
My suggestion for reinstalling is bali.imre@gmail.com player, who has a chest here on the geocaching.hu platform.

The village of Túristvándi is located on a plain near Erdõhát,
enclosed by a 16km sequence of the river Túr, which protects the
heritage of this small village. The original name of the village
used to be Isthfandi in the 14th century, named after a son of the
genus „Szente-Mágócs”. The prefix Túr was added in 1908
in order to differentiate this village from the other similarly
named ones. An archive record from 1315 already takes mention of a
water-mill, which, however, most probably is not the one we have
there today. The building materials of today’s mill date back
to 1752 – as a rarity, it is of a wooden frame structure and
is shingle-covered. The mill worked with three mill-wheels, two of
which milled flour and the third ground, all three without a roll
but with stones. A piece of the stone wheel is still on display at
the entrance. The mill was renovated in 1888 by Baron Zsigmond
Kende, the most influential of the landed gentry in the village
while the operation of the mill was updated at the beginning of the
20th century. Instead of the oil and paraffin lamps a dynamo was
installed to supply lighting. Soon after, such a low tide of the
river Túr followed that a demolition of the mill was suggested by
the water authorities. To avoid this, the Baron intervened and had
the river controlled. In 1952 the water mill was nationalized and
its subsistence became uncertain. Its operation was stalled and it
nearly fell down in negligence. Eventually, 11 years later the
reconstruction was decided upon and the mill has been working ever
since 1965. It is the largest working water mill of a wooden frame
structure in Central Europe. It is due to my numerous personal
memories that I decided to place my first cache right in this
neighbourhood. I have been coming back to this place since my very
childhood. The mill, as organic part of the nature, peacefully
nestles to the curve of the river, which is flanked by sycamore
trees. It really bears with peace and tranquility. The old trees
and the precious fauna of the woods nearby invite nature lovers for
hiking and valuable discoveries. There are no opening hours for the
mill but in general it's open from 8am until 6pm. On request, it
will be opened and started. There is a carpark about 50 m from the
mill and the cache is located approximately 200-300 m from there.
It's hidden under the four-trunk oak tree, near the footpath. The
box itself is a 10x10 plastic box. Have a nice exploration! M.Xati,
Ildikó, Fanni. CAUTION! Adder danger! This spring a local
conservationist warned us that adders were seen around the spot. As
a proof, he showed us the body of an adder that they killed in
their first shock. Keep to the path and watch your feet - children
are advised to stay at the mill.
