Geocache Description:

The final step in the "QUADRANTS" series - The Heart of New Mexico!

Step five in the "QUADRANTS" series. You must have conquered each and every cache of the "QUADRANTS" series to find this heart!

--------------------------------------------------

Please see the write-up of Methods and Generalities for the "QUADRANTS" series in a prior step (2) - "QUADRANTS - A sense of Albuquerque - Suburban", if you don't know what this is all about or why we did this!

--------------------------------------------------

QUADRANTS - "The Heart of New Mexico"

--------------------------------------------------

Well, you've made it to the final "QUADRANTS" Cache! The big cheese, the whole enchilada, the stuffed sopapilla covered with red and green chile combined - otherwise known as....Christmas!

Congratulations and well done!! Should you be one of the early finders, you'll be well rewarded for your efforts! Make sure to bring something of value to keep up the quality of this cache! One of the major goals of this series was to show the diversity, beauty and history of Albuquerque, by way of its 4 geographic quadrants! The Heart of New Mexico is the culmination of that effort and we hope that you've enjoyed the ride. The good news is that we're planning something in the future that will start from the "Heart of New Mexico" and show you some of the diversity, beauty and history of New Mexico. But we'll have to do some driving first!

In the mean time, if you'd like to visit 4 more "Wilderness" caches, keep a watch on the "Sense of Albuquerque - Urban" cache pages for information regarding the activity of either the "Winter" or "Summer" caches described at step 4 of the "QUADRANTS" series! You've already found 4 of them, but remember, it's just a matter of time before 4 others become active and the 4 you found become inactive! And the directions to find them? Near and dear to your heart!

So, for now it's back to doing our own cache hunts for those caches so thoughtfully placed by all of you out in New Mexico and beyond!

We hope soon to meet many of you out on the search in person!

Enjoy!

---------------------------------------------------

"The Heart of New Mexico" cache is NOT at the coordinates listed above!

To solve this cache you'll need:

1. A working GPSr unit (or for you purists out there a Map, Compass & Plotter)

2. The words and numbers that you wrote down from the final step in each quadrant - step 4: "QUADRANTS - Overlooks - Summer or Winter".

3. The actual cache location, which can be figured out by solving the questions and equation below.

4. A nice day with clear skies.

5. A high clearance 2wd car/truck or a 4wd.

6. A pat on the back!

The above coordinates point to the "Heart of Albuquerque" you should already know where that is if you've followed along with the "QUADRANTS" series from the beginning. The previous 13 steps will have gotten you to this point and you will now, finally be able to seek out the "Heart of New Mexico".

First though, a disclaimer:

YOU ARE GOING OUT INTO THE WILDERNESS, BE AWARE OF THE USUAL THINGS: SNAKES, BEARS, MOUNTAIN LIONS, BAD WEATHER, LIGHTHING STRIKES, HAVING ENOUGH WATER, AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD HURT YOU (LIKE JACKALOPES).

To solve the location of the "Heart of New Mexico", you will need to answer the following questions:

1. What words are spelled out in all 4 caches (placed in the order of: NW, NE, SW & SE) at step 4 of "QUADRANTS" - Wilderness?

2. More importantly, you must solve the following quandary from quadrants to locate THIS Cache:

A. North-West word = Some number shown beneath = North latitude in Degrees and whole minutes.

B. North-East word = Some number shown beneath = North latitude in Decimal minutes.

C. South-West word = Some number shown beneath = West Longitude in Degrees and whole minutes.

D. South-East word = Some number shown beneath = West Longitude in Decimal minutes.

3. A+B = the latitude of THIS cache location.

4. C+D = the longitude of THIS cache location.

5. Drive, hike and have fun looking for this large ammo box, some great treasures and one NICE first finders prize package attached to the Heart of New Mexico itself!

If you'd like, take a picture of the successful conclusion of your QUADRANTS journey once you've found this cache and the enclosed disposable camera. We'll post the pictures with your approval on this cache page!

On the drive home you might be interested in a bit more New Mexico history. Stop at Gran Quivira ruins, then Abo ruins, then Quarai ruins. They are fascinating places with easy hikes, incorporating Native American and Spaniard history going back over 800 years!

One more thing: If you have conquered this series as it was designed with shear dogged persistance. IE. - by Car (1), by trusting your various senses (2), by BUS or driving the bus route from ALL 4 quadrants (3), and by intellect and reason (4) - YOU SHOULD BE COMMENDED AND REVERED! We have followed along on your journey via your postings and we'd love to send you a token of our appreciation for sticking with it via E-mail! Let us know that you have really accomplished this "QUADRANTS" series "the hard way" at every step!

Many thanks to all of you first finders for your input and assistance on refining the series!

--------------------------------------------

If your curiosity is just killing you and you MUST know the GENERAL location of the "Heart of New Mexico" - take the fairly obvious locations posted at the coordinates for all four of the step (4) "QUADRANTS - Overlooks" caches and draw an "X".

"X" marks the spot!
